Only if you let it do your retrieval for you. Aimed to explain and then quiz you, it demands more active recall than passive rereading ever does. The risk isn't the tool itself; it's copying finished answers you never actually process.
For explaining concepts and quizzing you, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are all strong general choices. For questions about your own notes or one specific chapter, NotebookLM is safer because it cites the source and hallucinates less. Pair either approach with Anki for long-term retention.
Tell it not to. Add "don't give me the final answer — ask guiding questions until I get there myself" to your prompt, or use a Socratic tool like Khanmigo that behaves this way by default.
Not without checking. Because these models predict plausible text rather than look things up, verify every date, formula, and statistic against a textbook or an official source before you commit it to memory.
